Nowadays, healthcare professionals are beginning to consider side hustles because the main hustle is not enough. Side hustles such as medical writing, selling laptops, doing Uber / Bolt part time (I once drove for Bolt. Story for another episode) and selling clothes amongst others.
However, balancing a side hustle with the intensity of medical training or practice is a different ball game entirely. I had a chat with Dr. Kenechukwu Nwosu who has successfully built a signature jewelry brand, NOOKS Signature.
He shared his journey of becoming a jeweler alongside his medical career. He started with handmade cards and then moved on to making beads. His medical training helped him develop skills in observation and attention to detail, which translated well into his jewelry making. He faced challenges in balancing his medical practice with his jewelry business but learned to manage his time effectively. Dr. Nwosu emphasizes the importance of structure, discipline, and originality in the jewelry business. He also discusses the lucrative nature of the industry and offers advice for those interested in pursuing a career in jewelry making.
